  • Advancing Equity in Nonprofit Space

    Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 05:30 PM · $15.00 USD
    Taborspace in Portland, OR

Interested in learning how to Advance Equity in Nonprofit Space? We have the event for you!

Join the YNPN crew and guest facilitator Ledah Wilcox (they/them/theirs) for an evening deepening our understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work in nonprofit organizations, with an emphasis on racial and gender equity work!

We will spend some time establishing shared purpose and language, after which participants will be guided through a discussion process with small groups of like-minded peers. This event is a great opportunity for YNPN members to share their knowledge, learn from their colleagues, and further solidify their skills around and commitment to fostering equity in their organizations.

Ledah comes to facilitation and consulting after over a decade of working with youth, from circus camp to Portland Public Schools and many places in between. As a facilitator they have worked with groups such as Start Making a Reader Today (SMART), Open Meadow Alternative Schools, the Center for Equity and Inclusion, and the Portland State University School of Social Work. They hold a Masters in the Arts of Teaching from Lewis & Clark College, and a BA from Wesleyan University. Ledah identifies as a white, transgender, Jewish, Montanan, book nerd; they deeply believe that all forms of oppression must be eradicated for any of us to be free.

Find out more about Ledah by visiting their website.

    • YNPN Swift Watch

      Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 06:30 PM · 11 rsvps

Come see an iconic Portland September event with YNPN!

Thousands of Vaux's Swifts migrate through the area during September and one population has been roosting at Chapman Elementary School in NW Portland. This site is one of the largest known roosting sites of these migrating birds. Join us for a sunset watching of these birds spiraling into the school's chimney while avoiding birds of prey nearby.

Click here to visit LivingWithBirds 21 Facts on Swifts.

Notes: Bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages

Portland Audubon reminds us to be a good neighbor to Chapman-area residents by:

      • Not expecting to find on-street parking.
      • Leashing and picking up after dogs, before, during, and after the event.
      • Picking up trash and not littering on school grounds.
      • Knowing it is illegal to consume alcoholic beverages or smoke on public school grounds.

After bird watching, there's an optional dinner at Grassa to continue picnic conversations.

If you are unable to get to the Swifts event, feel free to meet us at Grassa on NW 23rd around 8:00pm.
