MLK Day of Service

Join YNPN Portland and The Urban League of Portland Young Professionals (ULPDXYP) in honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a day of service over MLK Day weekend! In partnership with Hands On Greater Portland, we’ll be volunteering with two great nonprofits on Saturday, January 14th.

The Rebuilding Center offers affordable used building and remodeling materials with the goal of promoting the use of salvaged and reclaimed materials to strengthen environmental, economic, and social fabric of local communities. Children’s Book Bank works to increase the chances for children to succeed as future readers, learners, and citizens by filling their homes and lives with quality books.

Volunteers will select from one of these two project sites to join us at on Saturday:

  • [THIS SITE IS NOW FULL] Salvage materials for community building at The ReBuilding Center from 10:00am to 2:00pm

  • [SERVICE AT THIS SITE CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER] Prepare books for kids as part of a “book harvest” at Children’s Book Bank from 9:30am to 12:30pm

Limited volunteer slots available, so please sign up soon! Upon sign-up, we'll email you with the details for your project, including the precise location. Volunteers should wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty.

These projects are part of Hands On Greater Portland’s 2017 MLK Day Weekend of Service. Hands On Greater Portland is a program of United Way of the Columbia-Willamette.
