On Saturday, January 14th, YNPN Portland and the Urban League of Portland Young Professionals partnered with Hands on Greater Portland and United Way of the Columbia Willamette to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy in a day of service at the Rebuilding Center.
More than 20 volunteers braved the ice and snow to salvage building materials from deconstructed homes. Volunteers de-nailed boards, sorted donated lumber, and shoveled snow at the Rebuilding Center’s warehouse on North Mississippi Avenue. The many tons of lumber salvaged by YNPN and Urban League volunteers is now ready for reuse in a project for the Village Coalition that will construct tiny homes for people experiencing homelessness.
The Rebuilding Center offers affordable used building and remodeling materials with the goal of promoting the use of salvaged and reclaimed materials to strengthen environmental, economic, and social fabric of local communities.
Thanks to all who joined for this project!
