This Valentine's Day, learn to fall in love—with yourself! On February 10, 2016, join us at Hatch Innovation Lab to learn about everyday acts of self-care. YNPN Portland's own Board Vice Chair, Britt Stetson, will share strategies for avoiding burnout in the nonprofit sector and developing sustainable habits as young professionals. Doors open at 6:00 PM for pre-event networking, and the program will begin at 6:30 PM.
Sometimes people think of self-care as a big splurge, a weekend away, a big new exercise plan, an intense diet detox, or suddenly avoiding all responsibility. Instead of thinking of self-care as big steps outside one's normal life, attendees will learn how to know more about themselves, adjust their habits, and do small things on a regular basis to take better care of themselves. Ultimately, practicing self-care will enable young nonprofit professionals to fulfill obligations to the world that they are so altruistically committed to.
Speaker: Britt Stetson
Britt is a native Oregonian and a graduate of Oregon State University. She has seven years of experience in the nonprofit sector - during which time she's worn a variety of hats in fundraising, grant writing, project management and communications. Currently, she is the Grants and Contracts Manager at SOLVE, the YNPN Portland Vice-Chair, and an MBA candidate at Willamette University. Says Britt, "A few years ago, I realized very quickly that I was on the fast track to burnout, but even with that realization, didn't want to slow down all that much. So, instead, I've been a work in progress developing habits and routines of self-care that help me stay happier, healthier, and better able to live up to my responsibilities. It's a balancing act, and I've learned a lot and become very passionate about self-care in the process - and am excited to share any wisdom or inspiration with others to help them do the same."
