Successfully navigating conflict in the workplace is a persistent professional challenge. Having to confront a co-worker about a problem, deal with a boss’s emotions, or facilitate a group to make a decision are all situations that can produce uncomfortable feelings of conflict and discord. And yet, we can’t escape conflict and there are times when productive conflict can actually enrich our lives.
So what’s the secret sauce that makes some conflict situations feel productive and energizing while others feel draining and demoralizing? During this interactive workshop we’ll explore specific strategies for proactively managing conflict in order to produce the best possible outcomes, as well as highlight the value in approaching challenging situations with openness and curiosity.
YNPN Portland is excited to welcome back #ynpn16 workshop facilitator Signe Bishop for this event on Thursday, September 14th.
After completing this session, participants will be able to:
Identify biological responses to conflict
Recognize and explain their own default conflict approach
List and describe the 5 conflict management strategies
Apply the 5 strategies in personal and professional life
Doors will open at 5:30pm with networking & snacks, the workshop will run from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
Signe graduated from the University of Illinois in 2004 with a degree in International Studies. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Oregon to fight poverty with AmeriCorps VISTA, coordinate volunteers for “I Have a Dream” Foundation-Oregon, engage national service members and college students in their communities with Oregon Campus Compact, and, most recently, train managers in leadership skills at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Signe is a foodie, loves the ocean, accidentally neglects her houseplants (but not her cats), and is a dedicated patron of the public library.
